Recent advances in somatic integrative psychotherapy and neurobiology, along with the integration of Somatic Experiencing, Mindfulness Meditation and Ericksonian mind-body therapies into modern psychological practice, have revolutionized current thinking about the resolution of trauma, painful patterns of thought and destructive emotions. A new approach is emerging which views symptoms of suffering as the body's wisdom pathways for creating communication between the unconscious and the aware self for promoting somatic re-learning, healing, and transformation. Where there is severe pain and trauma somatic new advances in neuroscience and mindfulness practices teaches us that the sympathetic nervous system becomes hyper aroused and can cause dissociation, numbness, and a frozen state of somatic experience. In this workshop, practicing psychologists, therapists and other mental health professionals will learn how to turn down the hyper aroused sympathetic nervous system and turn on the parasympathetic nervous system that fosters relaxation, affect attunement and mind-body healing. The training will include direct experience including somatic exercises, creative clinical approaches, guided mindfulness meditations and breathing patterns that can transform physiological and psychological blockages within the mind-body energy fields. It will use the modalities of Somatic Experiencing, Ericksonian therapies and relational dialogical approaches emphasizing mindfulness-based practices for accessing the somatic "core-self" to develop skills to deepen the client’s healing process. These modalities are highly effective techniques that understand the importance of the symptom as a pathway to inner healing.
As psychotherapy has become more diverse there is a growing interest in an evolving aesthetic that focuses on senses through somatic and mindfulness practices. This progressive model of a Mindfulness based Integrative Mind-body approach incorporates the importance of attention and awareness to emerging subjectivity between self and other. It is a new view that weaves a mutual co-creation in treating the whole person. This model uses a comprehensive methodology for integrating a wide range of interventions into a style that suits each individual client and the unique personality of the evolving therapist. The goal is to introduce the integration of Somatic Experiencing, Mindfulness and Ericksonian approaches with their holistic view and dialectic reasoning to practitioners allowing then to experiment with, discriminate between, and assimilate ideas that brings new beauty to a world struggling with suffering and enriches our ever-changing approach to modernize psychotherapy.
